Asia-Pacific wireless user numbers grow (Market News)

Starting from a low penetration level of 7% in 2000, the Asia-Pacific region will expand 20% annually in the next five years, increasing its wireless penetration to more than 15%. A three-part report from The Yankee Group puts the final tally of wireless subscribers in the region at 575 million by 2005, which is a result of robust economic growth and an expanding addressable population base. The key drivers for mobile adoption are telecom deregulation, prepaid services, decreasing handset prices and service charges, and the development of mobile data services. Japan and China will generate around 40% of the global wireless infrastructure spending from 2001 to 2005. "Asia-Pacific Wireless Market Overview 20002005" is available from The Yankee Group see www.yankeegroup.com.
