WDM leads growth in Asia-Pacific optical transport market (Market News)

A new report from RHK shows that the market for wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), SDH/SONET and DCS optical transport equipment in the Asia-Pacific region will grow 57% from the $3.9 billion spent in 2000, to $6.2 billion in 2001. The report predicts that the market will grow to $14.8 billion by 2004. This growth is being driven by deregulation of the markets in China and India, and increased Internet penetration. The WDM segment is the fastest growing area of the Asia-Pacific market, and is expected to reach $1.4 billion in 2001. Lucent and Nortel lead the WDM market with shares of 33% and 11%, respectively. SDH/SONET is the second fastest growing segment, with equipment sales expected to reach $4.3 billion in 2001. "Optical Transport: Peoples Republic of China" and "Optical Transport: Japan and Rest-of-Asia-Pacific" services are available from RHK for further information see www.rhk.com.
