Emcore debuts GaAs photodetector (New Devices)

Somerset, NJ. Emcore has unveiled a new 10 Gbit/s GaAs photodetector for multi-mode fiber-optic applications. The new photodetector partners the company s recently introduced 10 Gbit/s oxide VCSEL, and forms part of a matched transceiver device suited to VSR applications such as serial links, LANs for Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel, Infiniband and OC-192. The photodetector offers a bandwidth of 8.5 GHz and minimum responsivity of 0.5 A/W. It features an aperture size of 60 m, dark current of less than 0.2 nA and capacitance of typically 0.23 pF. The accompanying 10 Gbit/s VCSEL supplies an output power of 1 mW and 3 dB bandwidth over 10 GHz. www.emcore.com
