People News News in Brief Emcore has made Larry Kapitan the vice-president (VP) of its Electronics Materials division. Formerly director of MBE operations at RF Micro Devices, Kapitan has more than 20 years experience in high-volume GaAs production. Craig Farley, who takes on the post of VP of corporate operations and planning, formerly headed Emcore s Electronic Materials division. Accent Optical Technologies has promoted Greg Kaiser to president. Kaiser replaces Bruce Rhine, who will continue in his role as chairman and chief executive officer (CEO). Charles Abbe, formerly chief operations officer of JDS Uniphase, has joined Nova Crystal s board of directors. The company selected Abbe for his experience in the optical components market. Sterling Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Uniroyal Technology, has appointed two renowned SiC scientists to its team. Olle Kordina has joined as senior scientist for epitaxy and device production from Linkping University, Sweden. Prior to this he was senior scientist at Cree. Meanwhile Michael MacMillan joins as epitaxy scientist and program administrator. MacMillan previously researched SiC and GaN epitaxy for Northrop Grumman. CyOptics, a supplier of 40 Gbit/s active optical components based in Waltham, MA, has made several changes to its senior management. Eran Yarkoni has left CyOptics and will be replaced as president by current CEO John Pilitsis, while Raja Parvez has joined as chief manufacturing and quality officer. At the same time Ilan Rabinovich has relinquished his post as vice-president of engineering to become responsible for product design and development. Diode-laser manufacturer Cutting Edge Optronics has appointed Dean Micke as sales manager of its laser-diode division, IMC. Kevin O Donnell joins the company from Corning as sales manager for industrial lasers. E2O Communications has named Julian Cheng its VP of R&D. Cheng, who previously held posts at Bell Laboratories and JDS Uniphase, will lead its development of long-wavelength VCSELs and 10 and 40 Gbit/s devices. Zentrix, a supplier of electronics packaging and ceramic products for the wireless and fiber-optic industries, has named Don Ankrom its western US regional sales manager. Rodney Masumoto will head up Microsemi s new Product Development Center in Irvine, CA, with a focus on power management, optoelectronics and wireless applications. Masumoto previously worked at Silicon Systems and Texas Instruments. Tunable device manufacturer iolon has named Ephraim Suhir its VP of packaging and reliability, and Saeid Aramideh VP of product line management. Philips Analytical has chosen Gjalt Kuiperes to manage its sales, marketing and service units for the X-ray and semiconductor markets in the Americas. Swedish fiber-optic transceiver manufacturer Optillion has made Lars Carlson its new chief financial officer (CFO). Carlson joins from XponCardGroup where he was also CFO. Applied Wave Research (AWR) has made board member James Spoto its president and CEO. He replaces Joseph Pekarek, who becomes chief technology officer (CTO). Veeco Instruments has chosen Clark Taylor to be VP of marketing for its metrology group. Taylor has assumed responsibility for Veeco s scanning-force microscope, optical and stylus profilers, and defect-review product lines. MKS Instruments has made Robert Klimm the general manager of its ASTeX group, while William Bintz has joined the company s materials and analysis group as VP and general manager.
