News in brief: JDS Uniphase, TriQuint, Unaxis
The undersea pump laser business appears to have come to TriQuint when it acquired various optoelectronic component segments from Agere Systems. According to the Light Reading website, the undersea business comprises packaging technology that JDS Uniphase will use to develop entire pump modules.
Of course, JDS Uniphase has no need to buy any more pump laser chip technology; after acquiring SDL, JDS Uniphase was forced to divest its pump laser business in Switzerland, originally set up by IBM. This was bought from JDS by Nortel Networks, and is now part of Bookham Technology.
Unaxis Semiconductors awarded ISO9001:2000 certification
Unaxis Semiconductors has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification for its manufacturing facility in St. Petersburg, Florida, by the Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems (SQS). This means that all Unaxis Semiconductors manufacturing sites are now ISO 9001:2000 certified and the company has joined an elite group of businesses which have achieved world-class recognition for their quality commitment.
Compliance with ISO 9001:2000, a globally-recognized set of formal criteria, is designed to achieve total customer satisfaction by ensuring on-time delivery and by preventing nonconformity at all stages from order entry through servicing.
At the same time Unaxis Semiconductors also received ISO 14001:1996 certification. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized environmental management system standard that provides a highly effective, globally accepted framework for establishing and continually improving applicable management system processes.
