Korean LED maker admits copying Nichia designs

Nichia has reached an out-of-court settlement with a Korean LED manufacturer that had copied Nichia's designs.
According to a company statement from Nichia, a rival Korean LED manufacturer has admitted infringement of Nichia s intellectual property rights.

Nichia says that the Korean company has been conducting the unauthorized manufacturing, selling and advertising of products based on Nichia s designs, in a number of countries where these designs have been registered under respective laws.

The Korean LED maker admitted infringement in June 2003, and signed an agreement to accede to Nichia s demands. These included an immediate suspension of manufacturing, exportation of infringing products, and sales and promotional activities.

The company also agreed to destroy the infringing products in its inventory, along with packing materials and advertising materials.

Since the Korean manufacturer agreed to an early settlement, a legal dispute was avoided. Nichia says that it will continue to vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights throughout the world.
