Kyma receives $1 million in government contracts
“Numerous applications in the microelectronic and optoelectronic industries are made possible through the use of Kyma’s unique GaN technology,” said the company s CEO Ed Pupa. “These contracts will allow us to refine our GaN technology for the companies that rely on it.”
Last month, Kyma completed its Series B funding round, netting a total of $4 million to support commercialization, product development and staffing.
The company says that it continues to optimize quality and reduce defect densities in its GaN substrates and has received positive feedback from customers and numerous inquiries for product sampling.
The specific contracts received by Kyma are:
- A phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the Department of Energy entitled "Gallium Nitride Substrates for Improved Solid State Lighting".
- A phase I SBIR contract from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) entitled "Manufacturing Process for Production of Doped Gallium Nitride Crystals".
- A phase I SBIR contract from the MDA entitled "Gallium Nitride Devices on Semi-insulating Gallium Nitride Substrates for Advanced T/R Modules".
- A phase II SBIR contract from the MDA entitled "Gallium Nitride Wafer Surface Preparation for Epitaxial Growth".
