News in brief: Trumpf, Lamina, Amkor, Agilent
Holger Schlueter has been appointed as vice president and general manager of Trumpf Photonics, a manufacturer of high-power diode laser sources located near Princeton, New Jersey. Trumpf Photonics took over the manufacturing capabilities of Princeton Lightwave in August 2002 (see Princeton Lightwave partners with Trumpf).
In this new position, Schlueter assumes responsibility for product development, manufacturing and administration at Trumpf Photonics. Schlueter, who will report directly to Rolf Biekert, president and CEO of Trumpf Inc., was most recently director of laser production and development for Trumpf Inc. and the director of technology for Trumpf Photonics.
Lamina Ceramics teams with Kemet
Lamina Ceramics, which manufactures multi-layer ceramic integrated circuits (MCIC), electronic packages, and solid-state light engines, has announced an agreement with Kemet Corporation whereby the two companies will develop and commercialize high-performance, low-temperature co-fired ceramic-on-metal (LTCC-M) solutions for advanced electronic systems.
Kemet has made an equity investment in Lamina, who will also gain expanded sales channels. Kemet provides industry-leading, high-performance capacitor solutions, including the world s most complete line of surface-mount capacitor technologies across tantalum, ceramic and solid aluminum dielectrics.
Amkor expands in Taiwan
Chip packaging and test company Amkor Technology has signed an agreement with FICTA Technology to substantially increase Amkor s final test and wafer probe capacity in Taiwan, enable turnkey assembly and test service to Amkor s growing base of customers in that region, and provide for additional expansion of Amkor s assembly operations. Amkor will occupy an entire floor at FICTA s plant 2 near Hsinchu, Taiwan.
Agilent and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks establish IC test development center
Agilent Technologies is collaborating with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corp. (HKSTP) to establish the Probe and Test Development Center in the Hong Kong Science Park at Pak Shek Kok, Shatin, Hong Kong.
The center will provide a wide array of IC testing resources to meet the growing testing needs of the IC design communities in Hong Kong and the surrounding Pearl River Delta region.
The center will use the Agilent 93000 SOC Series platform to cover a wide range of IC testing requirements - including mixed signal, analog, digital and RF - rounding out HKSTP s comprehensive set of services focused on enhancing productivity and competitiveness in Hong Kong s technology industry.
