Anadigics buys Celeritek’s Tavanza unit
RFIC manufacturer Anadigics has acquired Celeritek’s wireless handset power amplifier design subsidiary Tavanza. Anadigics says that the purchase will allow it to broaden its CDMA product line and accelerate its penetration into strategic handset OEM customers.
The agreement includes 3 mm x 3 mm x 1 mm CDMA power amplifiers, technology and intellectual property, as well as the recruitment of key RF engineering personnel.
Celeritek had announced last month that it was to exit the handset power amplifier business to focus on GaAs-based subsystems and semiconductors for the defense markets. It had bought Tavanza exactly one year ago for an undisclosed sum.
”Tavanza is a highly recognized brand for innovative CDMA power amplifier solutions,” said Bami Bastani, president and CEO of Anadigics. “This acquisition complements our already strong CDMA PA module portfolio, which includes a robust new product pipeline of next generation 3 mm x 3 mm modules, and expands our portfolio beyond our competitors.”
Anadigics will open a new development center in Santa Clara, California, to house the Tavanza handset power amplifier development group.
Meanwhile, Celeritek posted $7.1 million revenues for its second quarter in fiscal 2004. The figure represents a $0.5 million increase on the previous quarter, but less than half the sales reported in the equivalent period last year. Net loss for the second quarter was $5.7 million, compared with just $1.2 million for the same period a year ago.
