News in brief: Trikon, Bede, Accent, Intense

Trikon has reported its quarterly results, Accent and Bede have made new appointments and Intense Photonics has won an R&D contract.
Trikon reports results

Processing equipment manufacturer Trikon Technologies reported revenue of $8.4 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2003, up 40 % sequentially and up 87% compared with the year-ago period. The company’s operating loss was $4.9 million compared with $8.0 million for the third quarter of 2002.

Accent appoints technologists

Accent Optical Technologies, a supplier of optoelectronics and silicon semiconductor process control systems, has appointed Andrzej Buczkowski, as Senior Scientist to work in the company’s Advanced Technology Center in Bend, Oregon, on lattice engineering and strained silicon-focused applications. Also, Mark Taylor has left Bede to join Accent as Product Manager for lattice engineering products.

Bede appoints Executive Sales Director

Bede, a provider of X-ray equipment, has appointed Jim Polasik to the position of Executive Sales Director and full Executive Board member of Bede plc. Polasik is a semiconductor industry sales veteran with over 30 years experience, most recently with Applied Materials.

“I am delighted that such a senior industry figure, with unrivalled global sales experience in our target markets, has chosen to join Bede at this pivotal time in its development,” said Norman Price, chairman of Bede plc.

Intense wins research contract

Intense Photonics, a supplier of optoelectronic products to the telecoms, printing and defence industries, has won an £80,000 research contract from BAE Systems to research and develop novel high power 1.5-micron semiconductor lasers.

The work is being carried out for the UK’s Defence Technology Centre (DTC) on Electromagnetic Remote Sensing (EMRS). The focus of the research is to improve output power and beam quality of short pulsed lasers.
