AmberWave to sublicense Agere’s Si patents
AmberWave is now able to grant sublicenses for strained Si technology owned by Agere.
Strained silicon specialist AmberWave Systems has secured exclusive rights to sublicense nine strained silicon patents from Agere Systems.
The patents include one covering methods for growing low defect density SiGe buffer layers onto which strained Si channels can be formed for high mobility FETs. This patent was granted in 1991 to a team of scientists working at Bell Labs, including Gene Fitzgerald, one of AmberWaves founders.
"By combining patents from Agere, patents licensed from MIT and our own IP , AmberWave offers the industry a true end-to-end technology solution for strained silicon wafer manufacture," said Richie Faubert, president and CEO of AmberWave Systems.
