SiGe devices market “to hit $2 billion in 2006”
The market for SiGe devices will be more than $2 billion in 2006, claims a new report from the US market analyst Frost & Sullivan.
According to the analyst company, the SiGe device market stood at $520 million in 2002, and will grow at almost 42% year on year to reach $2.09 billion in 2006.
The total market is expected to cross the billion-dollar mark this year to reach $1.04 billion.
Automotive radar systems, optical communications, cell phone handsets and Bluetooth applications are among the key markets driving adoption of the technology, says Frost & Sullivan.
The biggest single application area for the technology is currently the cellular market, which represented $234 million, or 45% of the total market in 2002.
The cellular market is expected to grow fastest of all application segments, and to generate $1.08 billion in revenue in 2006. Cellular device applications include power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers and transceivers.
Frost & Sullivan has calculated that the market for SiGe devices in GPS, Bluetooth and wireless local area network (WLAN) applications will grow at a slightly slower pace, from $78 million currently (15% of the total) to $250 million in 2006.
The analyst company counted applications in optical networking, hard-disk drives and automotive radar together as a single segment in its report.
These three applications together generated the remaining $208 million (40%) of revenue in 2002 and are expected to reach $762.5 million in 2006.
