RF Micro Devices shrugs off Nokia worries
RFIC manufacturer RF Micro Devices (RFMD) has confirmed that its revenue for the quarter ending March 31 will be close to $160 million.
The Greensboro, NC, company, which is the market leader in GaAs-based cellular power amplifiers (PAs), supplies millions of devices to cell phone handset manufacturer Nokia.
Nokia announced earlier this week that it has experienced a drop in sales of handsets (see related story), leading to concerns over the strength of the wireless market.
However, RFMD says that it is experiencing “strong customer demand”. As a result, it is expecting a sequential increase in revenue for the June quarter.
RFMD has recently announced supply deals with the South Korean firm Samsung, which is currently the third-biggest cell phone handset maker behind Nokia and Motorola. Samsung says that it is enjoying stronger demand for its phones in all regions.
