News in brief: Kopin, APA Optics, Princeton Lightwave
Demand steady at Kopin
US-based microdisplay and III-V device manufacturer Kopin has posted revenue of $22.4 million for its first fiscal quarter of 2004. Sales of III-V products accounted for $9.5 million of the total, up 9% sequentially but flat compared with the same time period last year.
“Kopin’s III-V revenues reflect ongoing strength in the wireless handset market and continued demand for our HBTs in wireless LAN and Wi-Fi applications,” said president and CEO John Fan.
“During the quarter, we continued to advance our GAIN-HBT transistors towards commercial availability,” Fan added. Kopin now hopes to achieve design wins for its GAIN-HBTs in power amplifier applications in the second half of 2004.
Kopin is also nearing commercial availability of its new CyberLite LED products, and is now ready to begin sampling.
The company is expecting a 5% rise in revenue for the next quarter.
