Anadigics extends Samsung PA deal to 3G phones
Warren, NJ, RFIC maker Anadigics has extended its supply deal with Samsung and is now shipping its wideband CDMA (W-CDMA) power amplifier (PA) module for use in the Korean company's SGH-Z110 cellphone.
The AWT6252 module, which supports the 1920-1980 MHz IMT-200 band used in Europe and Japan, is being made in "production volumes", says Anadigics. Samsung's SGH-Z110 universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) phone is distributed for use on the Vodafone wireless network.
3G technology could lead to new levels of multi-tasking, according to Samsung. "W-CDMA makes it possible for subscribers to send and receive live video, transmit emails, or browse the internet, while simultaneously speaking on the phone," said the company.
The AWT6252 PA module, which measures only 4 mm x 4 mm, is based on InGaP HBT technology. It offers 41% power-added efficiency at 27.5 dBm, which is said to result in longer talk times than rival technologies.
Anadigics CEO Bami Bastani added that the RFIC manufacturer's W-CDMA product line has been included by Qualcomm in its SURF6250 reference design, which is targeted at 3G handset applications.
