$5.4 million Italian job for Cree's XLamp LEDs
The Winter Olympics in Turin next month will be lit up by Cree's high-brightness LED XLamps, after the Durham, NC, company signed a $5.4 million deal with the Italian lighting design company Space Cannon.
The lighting firm specializes in high-profile architectural lighting installations, and previous projects have included the towers of light to commemorate the World Trade Center Towers in New York, as well as the 101 Building in Taiwan, and the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia.
Space Cannon added that it plans to use Cree's power LEDs in all of its future solid-state lighting installations. "Cree has demonstrated superior products and technical support, which is why we are switching exclusively to XLamp power LEDs," said Space Cannon founder Bruno Baiardi.
Norbert Hiller, the VP of solid-state lighting at Cree, said that he was "thrilled" with Space Cannon's switch to using the XLamp range of products.
