Equipment sales: Aixtron and Riber
High-brightness LED chip manufacturer Philips Lumileds has bought another high-throughput MOCVD machine from Aixtron subsidiary Thomas Swan.
The 30x2-inch "CRIUS" tool is the latest purchase by the San Jose-based company in its four-year commitment to buy epitaxial systems from the German firm, and it will be used to manufacture GaN-based high-brightness LEDs.
CRIUS is the latest reactor design from the equipment vendor, and is based on Aixtron's "integrated concept" approach. Improved features are said to include its smaller size, easier operation and maintenance, and better reliability.
Meanwhile, French MBE equipment vendor Riber says that it has received orders for two research machines.
One Compact 21T reactor and one Compact 21TM reactor will be delivered to unspecified customers.
