Opel concept car sports Osram LEDs

Opel produces a concept car with external lighting provided solely by Osram LEDs.

Opel, General Motors' core car brand for Europe, has unveiled a concept car sporting LEDs made by Osram Opto Semiconductors at the recent Geneva Motor Show.

LEDs have been used for all the exterior lighting in the Opel Gran Turismo Coupé (GTC) four-seater.

Two OSTAR LEDs are used in each headlight for the dipped beam, and three additional OSTAR emitters provide the high beam.

A further OSTAR is used for the fog light, and parking and daytime running lights are built with Golden Dragon LEDs.

Osram products are also used inside the vehicle, with red TOPLEDs providing illumination for the four dashboard instruments.

"They give the cockpit a reddish glow which goes perfectly with the stylish red design accents," claims the German lighting manufacturer.

Earlier this year, Japanese luxury car manufacturer Lexus announced that it was launching a series production car, the 2008 LS 600h L, which will contain low-beam headlamps based on high-brightness LEDs (see related story).
