Riber Announces Further Orders For MBE Kits In India And US

The new R&D reactors will be employed in biosensor, solar cell and various GaAs based heterostructures

French based firm Riber, a manufacturer of MBE systems providing globally to the compound semiconductor industry, has announced two orders for reactors which will be used in research and development.

EPIR Technologies, based in Illinois serves the civilian and defense sectors and when formed in 1998, focused on developing infrared materials for the US military. Since then, it has expanded its repertoire and the latest MBE32 reactor acquisition should meet the requirements of its latest developments which include biosensors and PV solar cells.

Having successfully demonstrated a novel scheme for detecting biological warfare agents in HVAC systems, EPIR is currently in the process of prototyping the sensors based on this technology.

The company is also working with Sunovia Energy Technologies to produce low-cost, high-efficiency multijunction solar cells, modules and systems for space, commercial and residential applications.

An additional order for an EPINEAT research system has been received from an Indian research institution. The EPINEAT system will enable the laboratory to expand its development capacities for the design of GaAs based III-V systems, such as lasers, power electronics and RF communications.

The MBE system is optimized for GaAs processing and has advantages over MOCVD growth due to the ultra-high vacuum (which could in theory improve cleanliness and hence reduce impurities) and the lower growth temperatures required.

This order strengthens Riber’s position in the Far East market which is currently the fastest growing region in the semiconductor industry.
