Cornell to Collaborate with Ephesus to develop Advanced GaN RF Amp
Four N.Y. companies, including Ephesus Technologies have received “JumpStart” grants to develop an advanced GaN on diamond device.
Four New York companies have received 2011 JumpStart Program grants for the spring semester through the Cornell Centre for Materials Research.
Funded by the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR), JumpStart assists New York state small businesses in developing and improving through university collaborations.
Ephesus Technologies, based in Syracuse, will collaborate with Eshan Afshari, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, to design an advanced RF amplifier based on a GaN thin film grown on diamond substrates.
MCB Clean Room Solutions, in Honeoye Falls, will collaborate with Shefford Baker, associate professor of materials science and engineering, to develop and characterise an AlN piezoelectric film for a micro-mechanical energy harvesting application.
JumpStart projects receive up to $5,000 in matching funds for project costs such as faculty and research staff, facilities, services, supplies and materials. Since its inception, 41 companies have benefited from the program.
