"We appreciate the interest and support of The Governor of St. Petersburg in the development of energy efficient technology in the region. We are satisfied that we have been able to present localised product families within such a short time which are fitting very well to Russian market requirements," Andre Richter, Head of “Philips and Optogan” comments.

During the visit it was added that, "Indeed, this new LED luminaire will find a proper place in streets and yards lighting."

Royal Philips Electronics, an innovator in lighting solutions, and Russian manufacturer of LED products Optogan, announced the signing of the joint venture agreement in April 2012.

The JV aims to become a strong player in the fast growing LED road lighting market in Russia.

It took less than a year to launch the new production line at Optogan’s production site in St-Petersburg.

The JV combines Philips’ latest LED road lighting solutions and international quality standards with Optogan’s LED knowledge, innovative solutions and understanding of local market requirements in this field.

During the year, “Philips and Optogan” significantly improved its product portfolio both economically and technically. Thus, the price for LED luminaries in 2013 decreased by 30 percent compared to the same kind of luminaries of 2012. This was coupled by a relative increase of energy efficiency of the luminaries of more than 10 percent.

The Russian LED road lighting market is expected to double to EUR 100 million by 2015. The strategic initiatives of “Philips and Optogan” are totally in line with the company’s plans to take a leadership position in the market.

As a separate part of the visit, an agreement of cooperation between the St-Petersburg Government and Rusnano was signed to stimulate the demand for innovative products, including nano products.
