Redsolar boosts solar capacity with Veeco MOCVD tools

The firm is buying more TurboDisc K475 reactors to grow III-V based CPV cells to ramp up production
The Guangdong Redsolar Photovoltaic Tech Co., Ltd. (Redsolar), a producer of concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar cells in China, has purchased multiple Veeco TurboDisc K475 As/P MOCVD systems.

The TurboDisc K475 MOCVD tool is a fully integrated deposition system that creates high quality compound semiconductor layers for CPV devices.

“China’s appetite for highly-efficient green energy sources remains strong,” says Ji, General Manager of Redsolar. “Veeco’s proven, best-in-class MOCVD systems reduce the production costs of CPV solar cells and allow us to easily ramp production in a modular way with supreme reliability at the lowest cost of ownership.”

Redsolar is currently operating several TurboDisc K475 MOCVD systems that were purchased in 2012.

He continues, “The K475 is the perfect choice for concentrated solar cells because our critical integrated reactor design produces excellent uniformity and repeatability with the highest uptime between maintenance. All those features lead to unmatched product yield and throughput for our customers.”

The TurboDisc K475 is equipped to maximise uptime and throughput by leveraging Veeco’s technology expertise in the GaN LED market. It also provides vital integration of critical reactor design elements. These include a tunable FlowFlange, advanced RealTemp 200 temperature control and ultimate TurboDisc high velocity laminar flow. What's more, the integrated system load-lock remains under constant vacuum to minimise downtime between runs. All are key cost-savings driving the efficiency of the K475.
