Vince Cable opens new G&H (Torquay) manufacturing facility
The UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills opened the new photonics solutions provider's facility in Torquay, Devon, which is expected to further enhance its growth
Gooch & Housego (Torquay) Ltd, the UK fibre optic component, photonic packaging and laser module division of Gooch & Housego Plc., welcomed Vince Cable on Thursday 14th November.
G&H have expanded office and manufacturing capacity at the Torquay plant in Devon to meet increased demand for its products and were proud to welcome Cable to open the new facilities. Vince Cable visited G&H with local MP Adrian Sanders as part of a tour of innovative businesses in the Torbay area.
According to Gooch & Housego (Torquay) General Manger Graham Catley, “Dr Cable visiting our facility and opening our new factory extension was an honour for Gooch & Housego and a reward for all the staff who have contributed to our growth, innovation and diversification. Our business has gone through a transformation in the last 10 years from a telecoms component manufacturer to a Photonics Solutions provider and the recent launch of the Systems Technology Group in Torquay will further enhance this growth.”

Speaking about the extension to the factory, Vince Cable said, “G&H (Torquay) is a prime example of the type of business which the government can collaborate with to deliver growth in our economy with its focus on technology, innovation and export.”
Gooch & Housego is an integrated supplier of critical photonic solutions: optical components, assemblies and sub-systems, in addition to light measurement instrumentation. The firm works closely with key suppliers to the Aerospace, Defence & Space, Biomedical, Industrial and R&D sectors, providing design, development and manufacturing expertise across a broad and complementary range of technologies.
Founded in 1948 G&H, has today six manufacturing sites in the USA and three in the United Kingdom and sales offices dotted over the globe.
