Cree Expands LED Downlight Range

Architectural downlight portfolio addresses ceiling heights from eight to 40 feet

Cree has introduced new KR8 and LR6 LED downlights, designed to deliver better lighting performance and better value for new and existing commercial spaces. The new KR8 downlight expands the KR Series by adding Cree's first eight-inch downlight, and features Cree WaveMax Technology and Cree TrueWhite Technology.

This combination brings optical efficiency, precise beam control and long product life to higher ceiling applications, such as theatres, airports and auditoriums. Cree also announces the newest generation of its market leading LR6 downlight, which provides even better light quality at a lower price. These new LED lighting solutions further enhance Cree's product leadership in the commercial downlight market.

"With today's announcement, Cree continues to accelerate the adoption of better commercial LED lighting with innovative technologies that provide superior light experiences," said Betty Noonan, Cree chief marketing officer. "These new products continue our track record of delivering industry-leading designs that provide unprecedented efficiency and light quality."

With the new KR8 downlight (pictured above), Cree's architectural downlight portfolio now addresses ceiling heights from eight feet up to 40 feet. Additionally, the KR8 downlight covers most commercial and retail applications with 6,000 and 8,000 lumen outputs, achieving what other high-lumen output LED downlights have not been able to deliver with more light, a range of beam spreads and unrivaled optical control. The specification-grade downlight integrates Cree's WaveMax Technology and uses a dual optic design that enables industry-leading precision with beam angles as tight as 15 degrees, providing light uniformity and better colour performance with a 90-plus CRI.

The new KR8 downlight provides double the lifetime of its nearest competitors, and delivers dimming capabilities down to one percent for lower energy bills and payback of less than two years.

Designed with contractors and electricians in mind, the KR8 downlight features an easy two-step installation, and is offered in warm, neutral and cool colour temperatures.

The new Cree LR6 downlight delivers up to 1,800 lumens of light with colour quality at a minimum CRI of 90. The downlight delivers up to 100 lumens per watt, using up to 89 percent less energy than the incandescent downlight it replaces and up to 58 percent less than a CFL. This performance is achieved by combining Cree's TrueWhite Technology with an integrated driver and thermal management design.

AngelTech Live III: Join us on 12 April 2021!

AngelTech Live III will be broadcast on 12 April 2021, 10am BST, rebroadcast on 14 April (10am CTT) and 16 April (10am PST) and will feature online versions of the market-leading physical events: CS International and PIC International PLUS a brand new Silicon Semiconductor International Track!

Thanks to the great diversity of the semiconductor industry, we are always chasing new markets and developing a range of exciting technologies.

2021 is no different. Over the last few months interest in deep-UV LEDs has rocketed, due to its capability to disinfect and sanitise areas and combat Covid-19. We shall consider a roadmap for this device, along with technologies for boosting its output.

We shall also look at microLEDs, a display with many wonderful attributes, identifying processes for handling the mass transfer of tiny emitters that hold the key to commercialisation of this technology.

We shall also discuss electrification of transportation, underpinned by wide bandgap power electronics and supported by blue lasers that are ideal for processing copper.

Additional areas we will cover include the development of GaN ICs, to improve the reach of power electronics; the great strides that have been made with gallium oxide; and a look at new materials, such as cubic GaN and AlScN.

Having attracted 1500 delegates over the last 2 online summits, the 3rd event promises to be even bigger and better – with 3 interactive sessions over 1 day and will once again prove to be a key event across the semiconductor and photonic integrated circuits calendar.

So make sure you sign up today and discover the latest cutting edge developments across the compound semiconductor and integrated photonics value chain.
