BluGlass gets $300k epitaxy order

News
Australian epitaxy firm to work with key customer on specialty LED application

Australian epitaxy firm BluGlass has announced that one of its key customers has committed to an order for around $300,000 of foundry development to be delivered over the next six months.

This customer is developing a specialty LED application for which BluGlass will be supplying the green and blue LED wafers.

BluGlass managing director Giles Bourne said: "This order from one single customer for epitaxial development is the largest foundry order that the company has received to date. It forms part of our strategy of growing the custom epitaxy and revenue generating service part of our business over the coming months. We see this large repeat order as a testament to our team's ability to deliver custom epitaxy at an industry competitive standard."

BluGlass (winner of the 2013 Australian Technologies Competition) has developed a new process using Remote Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (RPCVD) to grow semiconductor materials such as GaN and InGaN for the production of high efficiency devices such as next generation LEDs.

The RPCVD technology, because of its low temperature and flexible nature,  is said to offer many potential benefits over existing technologies including higher efficiency, lower cost, substrate flexibility including GaN on silicon and greater scalability.
