Nanoco continues Development with Osram

Joint development on LED lighting extended for another year

Nanoco, the UK maker of cadmium-free quantum dots and other nanomaterials, has signed a further follow-on joint development agreement with lighting company Osram in connection with the use of Nanoco cadmium-free quantum dots in lighting.

Nanoco says its cadmium-free quantum dot have the potential to transform LEDs so that they more efficiently produce bright, warm light with the ability to accurately reproduce colours.

"We're delighted to sign this latest joint development agreement with Osram and continue this exciting work focused on creating LEDs with substantially improved colour performance," said Michael Edelman, CEO, Nanoco. "Lighting is a core target market for our cadmium-free quantum dot technology."

Nanoco's joint agreement with Osram has been in place since 2011 with the objective of delivering LED lighting with superior performance characteristics. Much of the technical work to date has focused on encapsulating Nanoco's cadmium-free quantum dots so they can withstand the operating conditions associated with LEDs. This latest, 12-month agreement with Osram will further that product development.
