Sparrow Quantum and Yeungnam University select Veeco’s MBE systems to strengthen quantum research

Veeco Instruments has announced wins with Sparrow Quantum (Denmark) and Yeungnam University (South Korea), who have selected Veeco’s MBE systems to strengthen their cutting-edge quantum research.

Sparrow Quantum selected Veeco’s GENxcel R&D MBE system to support its development of high-performance quantum dot single-photon emitters. The partnership will support the growing market of photonic quantum computing and quantum communication.

Yeungnam University will utilise Veeco’s GEN10 MBE technology to expand its research capabilities in quantum dots and nanostructures. The system will support a broad range of initiatives aimed at developing next-generation quantum technologies.

“These wins reflect Veeco’s commitment to advancing quantum computing through precision thin-film deposition,” said Matthew Marek, senior director of marketing for Veeco’s MBE product line: “Our systems are trusted by top quantum innovators worldwide for delivering the material quality, process control, and scalability essential to push the boundaries of quantum materials, from early-stage R&D to scalable device production.”

According to McKinsey and Company, public and private investment into quantum computing startups totalled $2b in 2024. Moreover, public investment announcements have accelerated to reach $10b in early 2025.
