Ams Osram launches 120th birthday celebrations
At the exhibition Light + Building in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from March 8 to 13, 2026, Ams Osram will kick off a milestone anniversary year: 120 years of the Osram brand.
The brand began in 1906 with the electric light bulb. Today it's based around highly integrated lighting and sensor solutions that power next-generation technologies, underpinned by a patent portfolio of more than 10,000 patent assets.
Ams Osram says the anniversary symbolises a guiding principle that has defined the company for 120 years: Innovation does not happen by accident — it is the result of experience, ingenuity, and collaboration in partnership. Under the anniversary motto 'Making the future brighter' Ams Osram brings this commitment into focus.
“For 120 years, our mission has been to unlock the potential of light”, says CEO Aldo Kamper. “As a specialist in digital photonics, we are making roads safer, industrial processes more efficient, and devices smarter. We are making the future brighter through our high-tech expertise and pioneering spirit. This is our commitment as a company and the promise of our Osram brand.”
At Light + Building 2026, Ams Osram will showcase how light today functions not just as illumination, but as part of an intelligent, interconnected system that senses, measures, reacts, and communicates. Trade show attendees will be able to explore, for example, solutions for smart buildings, urban infrastructure, and industrial applications — all designed with energy efficiency, safety, and sustainability in mind.
The versatility of the offering comes to light at the Emergency Hub
The Emergency Hub presented at the trade show is a prime example of the broad range offered by Ams Osram. On display will be several safety-relevant technologies from Ams Osram, spanning sensing, signaling, and functional lighting. The centre piece will be a sensor that helps detect smoke-related hazards at an early stage.
Complementing this, modules for signaling and functional lighting are used, providing reliable guidance or warnings in emergency situations. Another key component is the high-power LED solution EVIYOS Shape, serving as a precise lighting module for safety-critical applications like symbol projection. It enables dynamic projections like adaptive cues or icons — and, thanks to its flexible form factor, can be precisely tailored to a wide range of applications.
“Making the future brighter“: driving innovation responsibly
Ams Osram says it is leveraging its more than a century of innovation beyond products themselves — for example, with a newly developed transport solution for LED components. The paper reel, making its official debut at Light + Building 2026, replaces conventional plastic reels in the LED industry. It reduces the carbon footprint by around 80 perceny, saves considerable amounts of plastic, and weighs one-third less: all at a comparable cost.
