Hensoldt signs GaN supply deal with UMS

News
Agreement aims to secure supply for devices used in Spexer radar family

German defence company Hensoldt has signed a long-term supply agreement with United Monolithic Semiconductors (UMS). By 2030, UMS will supply a total of 900,000 GaN semiconductor components for Hensoldt radars.

The GaN semiconductors are used in the transmit and receive modules of modern Hensoldt radar systems and enable particularly powerful high-frequency amplifiers. The semiconductor components are being developed and tested jointly by Hensoldt and UMS. They will subsequently be installed in particular in the Spexer radar family (pictured above)..

“Demand for high-performance sensor solutions is growing significantly worldwide. To ensure we can reliably supply our customers, we are systematically expanding our production capacities whilst simultaneously securing our supply chains,” says Hensoldt CFO Christian Ladurner. “The long-term agreement with UMS is a key component of this strategy and supports the expansion of series production of modern radar systems, which are used worldwide for air defence and security applications.”

“UMS and Hensoldt are long term partners in market introduction and production of innovative high frequency applications,“ says Xavier Crosnier, CEO of UMS. “Through this long term agreement, we are pleased to contribute to Hensoldt expansion of production capacities and strengthening of supply chain resilience with our GaN industrial capabilities.”
