Northrop Grumman's FORTITUDE device is designed to move massive amounts of information quickly, cleanly and reliably

Northrop Grumman has announced the FORTITUDE device; a single, grain-of-rice–sized GaN chip that is said solve the problem of moving massive amounts of information quickly, cleanly and reliably in commercial and defence applications.

It was previously called the Super Lattice Castellated Field Effect Transistor. The company describes it as 'future-ready' technology that is able to processes vast portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Northrop Grumman says it can deliver three times more power and 20 times better signal quality for radar, GPS, electronic warfare and future 6G systems.

The US-built device is also designed to replace dozens of components cutting weight, and slashing power consumption while delivering greater value for the end system.
