Company pursues PSS (patterned sapphire substrate) infringements

Nichia has filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against Corlant, a distributor of automotive aftermarket parts under the brand of Valenti, seeking an injunction and compensation for damages.

The accused product, against which Nichia seeks an injunction and compensation for damages in this lawsuit, is an automotive LED position lamp distributed by Corlant (product name: T10S-W0909-1) equipped with LEDs, which Nichia believes infringes its patents JP5800452 and JP6320582 in relation to PSS technology.

PSS is an abbreviation of Patterned Sapphire Substrate, and PSS technology is one of the core technologies in the field of LED chip. At present, Nichia owns over 100 patents in more than 15 countries in relation to PSS technology.
