CSC wins Collaboration title at Made in the UK Awards

Title awarded in recognition of work towards developing a World-class Compound Semiconductor Technology Cluster in South Wales
Compound Semiconductor Centre Limited (CSC), the joint venture between IQE plc and Cardiff University, has scooped the title for Best Collaboration at the Insider Media 'Made in the UK' Awards.
The award was presented to CSC during a gala awards ceremony held in Coventry on Thursday 21st June 2019. The title was awarded in recognition of work towards developing a World-class Compound Semiconductor Technology Cluster in South Wales with partners including; IQE, SPTS, Microsemi, Newport Wafer Fab, Cardiff University, Swansea University, Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, Cardiff Capital Region City Deal and Welsh Government.
The South Wales Cluster, which was launched in 2015, has secured investment commitments worth in excess of £600 million for innovation and manufacturing facilities to service applications including Telecommunications, Power Electronics, Sensing, Healthcare and Quantum Technologies.
Wyn Meredith, managing director of CSC said: “It is a great honour to receive this prestigious award, which celebrates strong industry and academic collaboration. CSC provides cutting-edge facilities that help researchers and industry work together and helps to position Cardiff as the UK and European leader in CS technology, and this award is testament to the growing importance of our industry sector to the regional economy.”

Secure Your Hydrogen Supply
A study supply of high-purity hydrogen is critical to semiconductor fabrication. Supply chain interruptions are challenging manufacturers, leading to production slowdowns and stoppages. On-site hydrogen generation offers a scalable alternative for new and existing fabs, freeing the operator from dependence on delivered gas.Plant managers understand the critical role that hydrogen plays in semiconductor fabrication. That important job includes crystal growth, carrier gas, wafer annealing, and in the emerging Extreme UV Lithography (EUV) that will enable new generations of devices. As the vast need for semiconductors grows across all sectors of world economies, so does the need for high-purity hydrogen.
