EPIC appoints Avantes CEO as new president

Co-founder of spectroscopy firm, with applications in a wide range of markets, offers perspective on growing a photonics company and joins senior figures from CEA-Leti, Modulight, Fraunhofer HHI, Lumentum, AMS Technologies and other big names in advancing the mission of optics industry consortium.

Benno Oderkerk (pictured) -- co-founder and CEO of Avantes -- has been appointed president of the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC). "EPIC is on a mission to build a strong network of trusted experts and leaders, [and] I am proud to be part of such an active organization that acts on behalf of all of us for the competitiveness of the photonics industry," said Oderkerk, who brings experience in the development and manufacture of spectrometers, light sources, software, fiber optic cables, and other accessories.

Last year, EPIC visited 96 companies getting to know the competences of the members, discussing their challenges, and engaging them in the 21 workshops and events organized in 2016.

EPIC is an industry association that promotes the sustainable development of organizations working in the field of photonics, and is engaged in fostering a vibrant photonics ecosystem by maintaining a strong network and acting as a catalyst and facilitator for technological and commercial advancement. Its output includes market and technology reports, as well as organizing technical workshops and B2B roundtables, international delegations, engaging in advocacy and lobbying, European funded projects, finance and investment, education and training activities, standards and roadmaps, pavilions at exhibitions.
