CS cluster commissions global skills survey
Independent survey aims to better understand future education and skills needs for the compound semiconductor industry
The Compound Semiconductor Cluster (CS Connected) has announced a global skills survey, specific to CS technology.
As part of a growing commitment to establish a global cluster in Wales for compound semiconductor technologies, industry, academic and government have come together to commission an independent skills survey to better understand the future education and skills needs for the industry.
The survey will inform the Compound Semiconductor Cluster (CS Connected) in South Wales about skills growth requirements. The cluster currently directly employs around 1,500 people. These are high value jobs and demand is expected to grow significantly over the next five or so years. There are expectations that the UK will be at the fore of a global compound semiconductor market predicted to be worth £125bn by 2025. However, it is a highly technical sector with some very specific skills sets. In order that CS Connected can continue to grow and flourish as an area of expertise in this global industry sector, it is essential to ensure that the appropriate educational and training capabilities are in place.
The UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF) with support from IC Resources is producing an independent report to identify and quantify the future education and skills requirements to support the success and growth of CS Connected.
The aim of the survey is to inform education institutions and training providers about the specific needs for our global industry. Key findings of the survey will be shared with participants.
