BAE Systems and GlobalFoundries collaborate

BAE Systems and GlobalFoundries (GF) have an announced a new collaboration to strengthen the supply of critical semiconductors for national security programs.
Together, the companies will engage in long-term planning for emerging technologies and collaborate on research and development in a range of areas, including semiconductor packaging and integration, GaN-on-silicon chips, silicon photonics and process development.
The new non-exclusive partnership builds upon the longtime relationship between BAE Systems and GF, and further brings together BAE Systems’ expertise in microelectronics for critical defence systems with GF’s expertise as a leading high-volume semiconductor manufacturers and a supplier of essential chips to the US Department of Defense (DoD).
Both BAE Systems and GF were recently named as recipients of planned direct funding from the US government as part of the CHIPS and Science Act.
Secure Your Hydrogen Supply
A study supply of high-purity hydrogen is critical to semiconductor fabrication. Supply chain interruptions are challenging manufacturers, leading to production slowdowns and stoppages. On-site hydrogen generation offers a scalable alternative for new and existing fabs, freeing the operator from dependence on delivered gas.Plant managers understand the critical role that hydrogen plays in semiconductor fabrication. That important job includes crystal growth, carrier gas, wafer annealing, and in the emerging Extreme UV Lithography (EUV) that will enable new generations of devices. As the vast need for semiconductors grows across all sectors of world economies, so does the need for high-purity hydrogen.
