East Grinstead, UK. Thermo VG Semicon, a business unit of US-based Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO), announced that it has received an order for one of its V90 Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) systems from The National Research Council of Canada, one of the world s most prestigious research establishments. Scientists at NRC s Institute for Microstructural Sciences (IMS) will use the equipment for the development of III-V-based devices aimed at a number of advanced optoelectronic and high-speed electronic applications.

"We are delighted to have received this order from NRC," said Dr.Philip Sullivan, Thermo VG Semicon s General Manager of North American Operations. " The V90 offers our customers a well-established route to R&D and small scale production for a range of advanced optoelectronic and other III-V devices."

Dr. Zbig Wasilewski, leading the III-V MBE effort at IMS, commented, " Our primary concern was to have an MBE system that would combine the flexibility of a top class research platform with the features of a small volume production system. The most compelling issues were compatibility with all of the latest in-situ monitoring tools and full process automation. In addition, obtaining a system with a proven track record was a definite bonus. For us this made Thermo VG Semicon s V90 the best choice."
