+13 dBm Family of DFB Laser Source Modules for the L-Band Help to Reduce the Cost of Test

Palo Alto, CA. Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the augmentation of its range of distributed-feedback (DFB) lasers with the launch of its 81663A family of high-power (+13 dBm), DFB laser source modules for the L-Band. These advanced modules strongly enhance the existing line-up of Agilent s high-power DFBs, helping to reduce the cost of test in R&D and manufacturing.

The new 81663A modules provide an extremely flexible multi-channel setup to test optical equipment in the L-Band. The combination of the 81663A modules with Agilent s tunable lasers within the test platform allow high-performance tests in the L-band. With the plug and play driver for the Agilent platform, test implementation time is reduced. The 81663A DFB lasers are especially suitable for optical amplifiers and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems testing. The modules share the proven high-throughput testing capabilities of all Agilent s DFB modules.

The Agilent 81663A DFB laser modules offer users high wavelength and unsurpassed power stability, which ensure the highest test accuracy. Other benefits include:

minimized inventory and maintenance costs with reliable, compact and easy-to-integrate high-performance systems; full remote control via the user-friendly and powerful Agilent 816xA VXI plug and play driver; full compatibility with all Agilent compact tunable lasers, return loss and DFB source modules, single and dual channel power meters and optical test mainframes; the capability of installing up to 17 DFB modules in a single mainframe and combining a virtually unlimited number of these for high-channel count solutions; and reduced cost of test due to its space-saving, compact design.

"Every element of our optimized test strategy is designed to reduce time to market, increase productivity and cut the cost of testing," said Werner Berkel, vice president and general manger of Agilent s Optical Component Test Division. "The 81663A is the result of extensive customer feedback and offers all the features that were lacking for high-performance tests in the L-band until now."

The module covers the ITU grid (100 GHz spacing) in the L-Band and has an output power of 20 mW.

U.S. Pricing and Availability The Agilent 81663A is available now for a U.S. list price of $7,350. For further information on pricing and availability please visit www.agilent.com/comms/DFB.
