Strategies Unlimited Announces Global Microwave Radio Market to Reach $9 Billion in 2006 Despite Current Telecom Weakness
Mountain View, CA. Worldwide purchases of microwave radios declined slightly in 2001 to $4.3 billion, but are expected to grow to $9 billion by 2006, according to Strategies Unlimited, a market research firm that focuses on equipment for wireless and optical communications. The market in North America was hit hard in the second half of 2001 by telecommunication capital spending reductions, however, markets in Asia have remained especially strong. Strategies Unlimited s new report, The Microwave Radio Market -- 2001 to 2006, details the worldwide microwave radio market for Point-to-Point, Point-to-Multipoint, and Wireless LAN radio. The report provides applications, products, technology, geography, and suppliers.
According to Strategies Unlimited, the worldwide Point-To-Point (PTP) radio market will reach $2.7 billion in 2001, a slight increase over 2000. By 2006 the PTP market is expected to grow to over $4 billion as a result of robust growth in the cellular backhaul, wireless trunking, and Internet access markets in Asia and Latin America.
The point-to-multipoint (PMP) market, including MMDS, LMDS head end systems, and CPE, is expected to grow from $455 million in 2001 to $1.5 billion in 2006. The European, Asian and Latin American markets for PMP systems remain strong. In North America MMDS has seen a downturn recently and LMDS has yet to take off.
The current market for W-LAN NICs, access points and bridges is estimated at $1.1 billion in 2001, and will grow to $3.5 billion by 2006. The timeline for migration from the current generation equipment to the higher data rate equipment is described. The W-LAN market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 26%.
The regional character of the world market is reported for six regions -- North America, Europe, Asia, Latin and South America, Africa, Australia and Oceania. Over 42 leading companies, including Agere, Alcatel, Alvarion, Ceragon, Cisco, DMC Stratex, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Harris, NEC, Nera, Nokia, Siemens, and Thales are profiled.
The resultant RF module and RF IC market requirements reflect the changing demand for ICs at frequencies between 2.4 GHz and 28 GHz. Both revenues and ASPs are estimated for all components.
The Microwave Radio Market -- 2001 to 2006 is available at a price of $6,450. For more information on this report, contact Strategies Unlimited at (650) 941-3438, e-mail info@strategies-u.com, or check the web site: http://www.strategies-u.com.
