Norstel latest to open SiC wafer facility
Sweden-based Norstel is ready to begin volume manufacture of SiC wafers and epitaxial layers at its new plant near Norrköping.
Norstel, the spin-off from Finland-based silicon materials specialist Okmetic Oyj, has opened its new SiC wafer manufacturing facility near Norrköping, Sweden.
The Swedish firm is the fourth to have opened a SiC facility for power semiconductor applications within the past month. US companies Cree and SemiSouth Labratories have cut the ribbon on their device fabs, while wafer specialist II-VI has a facility within the new SemiSouth building (see related stories).
Norstel's 2000 m2 plant was officially opened by Thomas Östros, Sweden's Minister for Industry and Trade, on August 29.
