Anadigics takes Fairchild's RF team for $2.3m
Anadigics has strengthened its research and development capability with the $2.3 million cash purchase of Fairchild Semiconductor s Tyngsboro, Massachusetts-based RF design team.
The acquisition, closed on September 5, will provide Anadigics with an additional 23 RF designers and engineers to help it develop cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX semiconductor devices.
“Highly specialized RF talent is rare in the semiconductor industry and is a differentiating factor in our fast-growing markets,” said Bami Bastani, CEO of the Warren, New Jersey company.
Anadigics commented that while this move will increase its overall research and development spend, it will only go up to the level anticipated for 2008. This will be partially offset by strong customer demand in 2007, it expects.
The Tyngsboro group s prior work includes developing a proprietary InGaP HBT process for Fairchild which looks to be a good fit to Anadigics existing technology portfolio.
As part of the transaction, Anadigics will assist Fairchild transition out of the RF niche by providing both business and technical support.
• Meanwhile, Anadigics fellow PA maker TriQuint has completed its $15 million cash deal for Peak Devices on September 4.
