Should LED manufacturers publish test report data?
More LED manufacturers may well begin to make LM-80 test report data publicly available after the actions of one company.
A new report will help system designers meet Energy Star eligibility criteria and optimise solutions for a desired maintenance level, it has been claimed.
Philips Lumileds is the first light emitting diode (LED) manufacturer to make LM-80 test report data publicly available.
The company intends that the information will be used by luminaire producers to allow them to evaluate the pros and cons of using different LEDs in solid-state lighting solutions.
Steve Barlow, executive vice-president of sales and marketing for the firm, explained the report was produced to simplify development and production.
He stated: "We encourage other manufacturers to follow our lead to help simplify and accelerate solid-state lighting market development."
The company advised the lighting industry to understand specific maintenance behaviour of selected LEDs.
According to the Philips Lumileds, lumen maintenance data is vital for predicting and understanding how such products will perform in various conditions.
