Kopin demonstrate Advanced Thermal Imaging Eyepieces at International Defense, Security and Sensing Symposium
The standard eyepiece model which may be hand-held, used in tripods, vehicles or headgear, dissipates less than 155 mW while displaying full-rate video at 60 Hz and less than 20 mW in low-power standby mode. It has been fully qualified by the U.S. Army s Thermal Weapon Sight Bridge program and will be introduced alongside custom eyepiece solutions based on the new CyberDisplay(R) 640M LVR microdisplay.
The latest CyperDisplay technology is claimed, by Kopin, to have near instant-on capability, superior reliability and uses an ultra-low-power active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD). The displays are alleged to use the lowest power and have a constant contrast ratio over a wide range of operating temperatures and brightness conditions. This will provide the army personnel with a full range of detection capabilities which can be adapted for used in complete darkness.
Having to adhere to extremely stringent conditions in an often harsh environment, the products have undergone extensive shock, vibration and environmental stress screening and with their high-volume manufacturing capabilities, Kopin are hoping to expand by taking their business to a number of Defence Organisations.
