WCDMA Handset Semiconductor Revenue Predicted To Exceed $30 Billion By 2014

Research and Markets announce the addition of the “Worldwide Cellular Phone Components 5-Year Forecast” to its ‘Phone Component Forecast’
The mobile phone started off as a practical and convenient communications device but is now relied upon as a mini-computer. Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) is a standard found in 3G mobile telecommunications networks.

The recent success of smartphones and wireless broadband has spurred phone manufacturers to push ahead with their 4G plans. This is deemed necessary in order to meet the constantly increasing phone demand by consumers. This should in turn have a positive effect on the compound semiconductor growth industry and impact the cost of GaAs based HBT chips.

Research and Markets provide the latest data on international and regional markets, key industries, the top companies, new products and the latest trends. The Phone Component Forecast is an Excel spreadsheet containing 5-year forecasts (currently 2009 to 2014) for handsets, handset revenues, and handset semiconductor revenue by region and technology type.

The data also includes handset semiconductor revenue by its precise function and forecasts for Wi-Fi dual-mode phones, Bluetooth, GPS and touchscreen phones, cameras, analog TV tuners and accelerometers in phones, and phones with pico projectors.

Predictions by Research and Markets are that LTE applications and multimedia processor revenue will exceed $400 million by 2014. Also the TD-SCDMA handset semiconductor revenue in 2010 will increase more than five-fold compared with nascent 2009 levels.

In addition, the Latin America region is expected to see the most significant growth in WCDMA handsets and exceed the Middle East & Africa by 2011, and the North American and Eastern European regions by 2012.

Overall, handset semiconductor revenue is predicted to see a more moderate five-year compound annual growth rate of 2.1%, as semiconductor revenue for CDMA and GSM handsets declines throughout the forecast period, according to market research firm In-Stat.
