S2K Event To Highlight Compound Semiconductor Importance

An annual conference is showcasing the importance of compound semiconductor technology.
An event being held in Cardiff on June 1st and 2nd will highlight the importance of new technologies such as compound semiconductors in improving energy efficiency.

The S2K 2010 conference is this year being chaired by Ravi Silva, professor of solid-state electronics, director of the Advanced Technology Institute at the University of Surrey and head of the Nano-Electronics Centre.

However, Bedwyr Humphreys, general manager of NanoGaN, is to be a keynote speaker at the event and will highlight the growing demand for high-purity, low-defect gallium nitride substrates with which high-efficiency compound semiconductors can be manufactured.

Dr Humphreys said: "We are keen to create awareness of new materials which will revolutionise the lighting industry once they enter mainstream production. The use of these materials offers the potential to significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions."

The conference is an annual event which each year provides a forum for businesses to showcase the latest trends within the semiconductor sector.
