Analysts to host meeting on future of LEDs in Lighting

Market developments to be discussed during Frost & Sullivan's next quarterly Analyst Briefing on the European LED/OLEDs Markets on Thursday, 13 May 2010, at 15.00 BST.

LEDs  and OLED devices will enhance their presence into the general lighting market, including residential, retail display outdoor, and off-grid applications, over the next three years say Frost and Sullivan.

These product markets are poised to exhibit strong growth primarily driven by emergence of new applications such as automotive, medical and military. Increased penetration of solid state lighting in many existing applications such as backlighting and mobile displays will continue to be important and as a result, white LEDs will become a more significant part of the market.

"After the decision made in December 2008, the European Commission implemented a ban on the sale of 100-watt conventional incandescent light bulbs from September 1, 2009. All light bulbs of more than 75 watts will be banned in 2010, followed by 60-watt bulbs in 2011 and 40-watt bulbs in 2012. Over the coming years about eight billion incandescent light bulbs will be replaced by energy-efficient solid state alternatives such as LEDs and OLEDs creating unmatched opportunities for companies in the value chain across all applications," comments Santosh Kumar P, Industry Analyst for Electronic Devices group.

Highlights of the briefing  will include

-          Market size analysis

-          Crash part market size

-          Component and chemical purchasing

The briefing will benefit companies who supply LED materials, chips and modules, driver ICs and circuits, backplane substrates and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and resellers of LEDs products globally.
