SemiLEDs heighten UV LED chip production with new reactor

SR 4000 MOCVD reactor from Taiyo Nippon Sanso reactor will provide stable performance with high through put to satisfy the rapidly growing UV LED market

US based firm SemiLEDs Corporation today announces it is increasing manufacturing capacity of UV LED chips with the purchase of a new SR 4000 MOCVD reactor from TaiyoNippon SansoCorporation.

“The addition of a new UV LED reactor will allow SemiLEDs to continue to build on the momentum of the rapidly growing UV LED market and confirms our position and commitment as a top supplier of UV LEDs,” commented Dr. Chuong Tran, SemiLEDs President and COO. “The addition of the new reactor will enable us to further improve the support and service we provide to a growing list of companies dedicated to the UV market through our broad portfolio of UV LEDs.”

Kuroda san of Taiyo Nippon Sansoadded, “We are very excited by this opportunity to collaborate with SemiLEDs. The SR 4000 provides superior and stable performance with a high through put while achieving the highest crystal quality and uniformity.”

SemiLEDs UV LEDs are made with patented and proprietary MvpLED technology which features a vertical structure on a copper alloy base. This design allows for higher performance and longer lumen maintenance. Its latest high power I-core MvpLED delivers over 120 lm/W. SemiLEDs is a major player in UV LEDs, which have had a growing impact on a number of UV market segments including conformal coating, curing, printing, medical, security and forensics and biotechnology.

In December 2008, SemiLEDs was awarded with the 2009 Technology Pioneer Award from The World Economic Forum. The company website is www.semileds.com .
