TeliaSonera expands in North America with Infinera PICs
The deployment of the InP (indium phosphide) based platform delivers long haul FlexCoherent 500 Gb/s super-channels
TeliaSonera International Carrier's (TSIC) network has expanded across North America with the Infinera DTN-X platform.
The Infinera DTN-X platform delivers long haul FlexCoherent 500 Gigabit per second (Gb/s) super-channels based 500 Gb/s photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and Instant Bandwidth.
With an Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, TSIC completed a major network expansion adding an additional 18,400 km fibre to its existing North America network, to reach 44 Points of Presence (PoPs) by the end of this year and providing diverse connection capabilities to Latin America.
TeliaSonera International Carrier, a global IP carrier, operates a wholly owned fibre optic network connecting 200 PoPs across Europe, North America and Asia. Customers include content providers and network operators globally for IP, DWDM, Ethernet, voice and specialised IPX-based mobile services.
TSIC says it was the first to deploy an Infinera Intelligent Transport Network and Instant Bandwidth in North America reaching 35 PoPs in 23 cities. The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network is also deployed throughout TSIC’s North America network and in part of its European backbone.
“Today’s end users want everything, anywhere, instantly. This expansion is about supporting that and the increasing interest for our offering in the Americas,” says Erik Hallberg, President, TeliaSonera International Carrier. “The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network helps strengthen our global backbone and demonstrates our commitment to be ready to carry the big ideas of tomorrow.”
"Our team at Infinera is excited to make this announcement supporting TeliaSonera International Carrier in expanding their business and providing the services demanded by the industry and their customers," adds Bob Jandro, Infinera’s Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales. "We help our customers grow their business and in this case, support TSIC beyond expanding their network, we’re also providing professional support services to help ensure their network is deployed, operated and maintained in excellence."
The Intelligent Transport Network helps enable carriers to use time as a weapon to increase revenues with highly reliable, differentiated services while reducing operating costs through scale, multi-layer convergence and automation.
