InfiniLED develops board for µLED technology

The board has been designed to include three µLED designs and as a reference standard LED for comparison
InfiniLED has announced the release of the µLED demonstrator board.

This board, pictured below gives companies and research organisations the opportunity to test and evaluate the unique µLED technology at their own facility.

The InfiniLED demonstrator board has been designed to include three µLED designs as well as a reference standard LED for comparison.

The µLED designs included are: a single pixel emitter with a diameter of 20 µm; a cluster of thirty seven emitters (all emitting a parallel); and a mini-array of three individually switching 20 µm pixels. Also included is a reference emitter which is 20 µm in diameter but does not include the patented µLED technology.

The demonstrator board is credit card size and is therefore ideal for use in a number of experimental set-ups. The board includes a battery power source and can also be driven from a USB port.

This allows it to be included in presentations and design meetings to aid in the better understanding of the potential of the devices or to elaborate on ideas.

Commenting on the release Bill Henry, Chief Commercial Officer of InfiniLED said, “We are delighted to announce the release of the InfiniLED demonstrator board. The interest in the µLED technology to date has been phenomenal. The demonstrator board will allow more customers to get µLED devices in their hands so that they can understand the potential for themselves.

The flexibility and unique performance of the µLED allows engineers to design and optimise the light source for the needs of the products. This enables the development of new and better performing products.”

Speaking at the launch CEO Joe O’Keeffe said, “InfiniLED is committed to building strong relationships with their customers. Core to InfiniLED’s business is to understand the full needs of our customer’s application. The demonstrator board showcases the potential of the µLED technology. However, its true applicability is for the customers to decide”.

The demonstrator board highlights only a small amount of the potential of the µLED technology.  Maximum benefits can be achieved by optimising the performance parameters for the needs of the application.

To do this the µLED can be fabricated in a number of designs and chip sizes. This allows their efficient use when coupling to areas with diameters less than 20 µm, in clusters for coupling to larger areas or in a number of array designs for the controlled illumination of areas.

InfiniLED develops a range of LED light source modules based on its patented µLED (MicroLED) technology. This technology brings together the benefits of LED and lasers in a compact and simple to use form-factor.

These benefits include a collimated beam directly from the chip, ultra-high intensity (up to 300 W/cm2 ) demonstrated over small areas) and ultra-low switch on currents. InfiniLED has a number of development contracts with global customers. The areas of application for the technology range from diagnostic testing devices to consumer products.

InfiniLED will be attending the Photonics West and BiOS in February 2014 and will be at booth #4213 during Photonics West (taking place from 4th to 6th February 2014). InfiniLED will be attending BiOS from 1st to 2nd February at booth #8508.

The demonstrator board is available for purchase from InfiniLED now.
