TSMC Solar breaks day-old CIGS solar record

16.5 percent efficiency claimed for commercial modules

A day after Manz announced a 16 percent efficiency record for CIGS modules, TSMC Solar has claimed a 16.5 percent efficiency (verified by testing house TUV SUD) for its commercial 1.09m2 CIGS modules.

The Taiwanese manufacturer's previous efficiency record was 15.7 percent set in 2013.

"We continue to prove our ability to develop record-setting process improvements in full-size modules. By bringing past innovations to mass production, our current production line efficiency has improved to an average 14.7 percent module efficiency", said Chia-Hsiang Chen, president of TSMC Solar.
