Cree recalls T8 tube LED lights

700,000 LED fixtures recalled due to overheating risk

Cree has issued a voluntary recall of its tube-shaped T8 LED, a light designed to replace fluorescent bulbs in commercial and office fixtures. The company says that around 700,000 units are affected and present a potential fire risk.

According to Cree, electrical resistance between the spring contact and the printed circuit board may cause over-heating due to electrical arcing. The printed circuit board can overheat and cause the LED T8 lamp to melt, posing fire and burn hazards.

Cree is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Health Canada and Profeco in Mexico to provide information to Cree LED T8 Replacement Lamp owners.
